Si Young Song

Dr. Si Young Song is a professor of Division of Gastroenterology, Department of Internal Medicine, Severance Hospital, Yonsei University College of Medicine (YUMC). He is an established translational and clinical researcher, with 29 years of experience doing mostly pancreatic and biliary cancer research at Yonsei University. He was a leader of medical part to develop “MiroCam”, the first capsule endoscope using human body communications. He also discovered the novel gene, naming PAUF (pancreatic cancer upregulating factor) in pancreatic cancer. His research has been focused on cancer stem cell, biomarker development for early diagnosis, novel drug discovery using bio-big data and clinical trials of the first-in-class drugs. He had 90 IPs, published more than 392 SCI journals, and wrote 15 chapters of academic books. He has served as the leader not only in the various academic societies, but also in the institutional and governmental research and business development strategy and policy making parts. He served as the following positions; Dean, Director of Medical Science Research, and President of Industry-University Foundation and Convergence Center of YUMC, Founder and President of Korean Society of Gastrointestinal Cancer, President of Korean Society of Pancreaticobiliary diseases, President of Korean Society of Medical and Biological Engineering, Non-executive directors of KHIDI and KIET, Member of National IP Committee, Chirman of National Bio IP special committee, Chairman of the Committee of National Health Research and Business Development Policy Decision of MOHW, Chairman of Research-driven hospitals planning committee, Commissioner for promoting the pharmaceutical industry of MOHW, Chairman of National Distributed Biohealth Big-data committee of Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy and non-governmental commissioner for national high technology medical cluster promotion committee, etc. Currently he is serving as the Chairman of Committee of National Bio Big-data Project and Future health care forum of MOHW.
